Malware Aims Firefox Users April 29th, 2011

Researchers from BitDefender, antivirus software producers from Romania found a malware, malicious programs that may damage the computer. Malware-called Trojan.PWS.ChromeInject.A go to the folder add-on of the Firefox browser. According to Viorel Canja, head of the lab, Bit Defender, the malware will be active when the user running Firefox.

According to news reported by PCWorld, December 7, 2008, malware that uses JavaScript to identify more than one hundred financial sites and remittances. Some of these include Barclays, Wachovia, Bank of America, and PayPal as well as dozens of Italian and Spanish banks. When recognizing a site, the malware will collect the identity of the login and password and sends information to a server in Russia.

“The increase in users of the Firefox browser than Internet Explorer since its first appearance four years ago may be the reason why malware authors target the browser to log onto the computer,” said Viorel Canja. “Users infected with the trojan could have got it by downloading it. Either intentionally (deceived) or unintentionally (through security holes in browser). ”

While active on a PC, the trojan it declared itself as a file system that is Firefox’s Greasemonkey. Itself is a collection of Greasemonkey scripts that add functionality to a web site which was opened by Firefox.

BitDefender has updated its products to detect the trojan. According Canja, other antivirus software producers in the near future this course will be releasing an update. Users can prevent attacks by trojan update antivirus software and make sure not to download any software that is dangerous or suspicious.
