The latest tablet made by Samsung, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9, eventually circulates in Indonesia starting on Saturday, October 1, 2011.
In the launch held at Plaza Senayan, South Jakarta, there was also held its debut of this tablet which was directly invaded by the buyers.
The ante of potential buyers was almost uninterruptedly. It is not separated from the special offers which only valid on that day alone.
On the launch day there was a reduced price of Rp500,000.- (or about US$60) and a bonus package of unlimited data from XL for a year that has been bundled.
The normal price of the Galaxy 8.9 with 16 GB storage capacity is Rp5,499,999.- (or about US$560). Yet, when in launching the price was removed to Rp4,999,999.- (or about US$600). Also, the offer was only valid for the first 500 buyers.
Eka Anwar, Head of Marketing Communication Samsung said that the Galaxy 8.9 is the answer to market demand on a large screen tablet.
“Some say the Galaxy Tab 7 inches is too small. While the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is too big. So, Galaxy 8.9 is in the middle, which fits all, “he said.
He also added that one major advantage of this tablet is its light weight, only 453 grams.
With the size and weight which are more petite than its predecessors, the Galaxy Tab 8.9, a Honeycomb Android-based tablet, is expected to be more accepted by women.
Galaxy Tab 8.9 is powered by a 1.2 GHz processor dual-core processor and comes with two choices of memory capacity of 16 or 32 GB.
The tablet is equipped with two cameras, they are a 3.0 megapixels camera on the back and front 2 megapixel camera.
Eka said that the current Indonesia’s tablet market is growing rapidly. “Up 400% over the previous year. And we were ranked first in Indonesia,” he said.
Because of the size of this tablet market, Samsung will continue to actively approach the tablet market in Indonesia.
